I grew up in the small market town of Newtown in Mid-Wales, thirty miles from the English border. From a very early age, I was an avid reader of anything I could lay my hands on and later wrote poetry and short stories for my school magazine.
I studied for a degree in Biochemistry at UCW Aberystwyth on the Welsh coast. I followed this with a PhD at the University of Bath and spent 10 years conducting postdoctoral research at the Metabolic Research Lab in Oxford (Nuffield Dept Clinical Medicine). Meanwhile, I gigged on the Oxford music scene with my band called 'IRIS' and joined the Police Specials, going out on an eight-hour shift every Friday night, as part of a response unit. It was after a particularly harrowing shift that the ideas for my first novel, Death Master, first formed.
In 2003, I moved back to Wales.
'Death Master' was my first crime thriller novel. I have since published 23 more books in the DI Giles series and 5 books in the DI McKenzie Series.
I have been a full-time author since the summer of 2018 and love what I do.
I'm currently writing Book 6 in the DI McKenzie Series and Book 26 in the DI Giles Series.

A trip down memory lane... I began writing the first DI Giles Book (Death Master) back in 2002. I was doing Post-Doc research in the Metabolic Research Lab in the Nuffield Dept of Clinical Medicine, in Oxford. I was also volunteering as a police special constable (which is where I began to formulate the first ideas for my books and the first book is based in Oxford).
Here are some photographs of the very first notebook I used to handwrite Books 1 and 2, and one of me as a special constable.
